Text messaging is something that many girls and guys do on a regular basis. When you and your ex boyfriend first break up, the first thing that you may want to do is text him. You might want to tell him how much you miss him. You also may want to ask him questions about the breakup, or even flat out yell at him through a text message.

STOP right now! Do not pick up that phone to text your ex boyfriend. Put it down. Turn it off if you have to. Just leave it alone.

You might be wondering why. You have always texted your ex before, so why can’t you do it now? It’s not like he’s not used to getting text messages from you. And besides, shouldn’t he know how you really feel? There are a few reasons that you do not want to text message your ex.

1. Your ex boyfriend probably wants a little bit of space to himself right now. Regardless of what you might think, he probably has a lot of thinking to do, especially if you have just broken up. If he’s not really sure how he feels about you, the last thing in the world he needs is a text message saying how much you miss him. It will probably confuse him, or simply frustrate him. The best thing you can do is avoid harassing your ex with texts.

2. Contacting your boyfriend is going to make you look pathetic. Unless you have a reason to contact him, there is no reason to text message him about anything. You want to be the one who has the upper hand in the situation. By text messaging him, you are showing him that you are needy and clingy. This is not the type of girl that a guy wants to get back together with.

3. It is likely that you will have an argument through text messaging. If you want to get back together with your ex boyfriend, arguing is the last thing that you really want to do. Both of you are bound to say something that you might not really mean, which is something that is best to avoid during this time.

4. Think about how you’ll feel if your ex boyfriend’s friends are around. Or even another girl. Although we never want to think that someone we have loved or been involved with could possibly show others the words that we are sending them, it is often a reality. Don’t think that your ex boyfriend won’t do this to you. After all, did you ever think that he would break up with you in the first place?

IF You Must Text an Ex

If you do make the decision to send your ex any texts, do NOT ever send him more than one. If he does not reply to you, do not resend any text messages to force him to answer. When he’s ready to answer you, he will. Be short, sweet, and to the point. Do not profess all of your feelings, and avoid making yourself sound desperate.
